Let’s face it, the majority of us can do without this lovely chore but we know that it has to get done right? The second part of it is referred to as spring cleaning which we all know is the time of year to go through everything you own and get rid of and/or donate items that you are no longer using or discard broken items that you should have brought outside for bulk trash.
Well earlier this year, I went through all of my belongings in the basement. I also had my son sort through his bins and discard and/or donate anything that he no longer wanted to keep. I went through my Christmas decorations and threw away all of the broken ornaments with the intention of purchasing new ornaments this holiday season.
I then started going through all of my kitchen cabinets. I sorted through the pantry and threw away any expired food cans, half eaten cereals that have not been touched and organized whatever was left so that everything would be easier to find. I continued onto the cabinet which contained my cookware and sorted through all of the plastic food storage containers.
I threw away all of the old ones that have been used to reheat food too many times and if a container did not have a lid, in the trash it went. I went through all of our water bottles. I can’t even begin to tell you exactly how many we had gathered from sporting events so I kept the newer ones and the rest were discarded. In my mind, there was just no need to have so much stuff.
Throughout the year, I continued cleaning various areas of my home and decided to part with items that I hung onto for far too long. I read in a magazine that if an item has not been used in six months to a year, it was time to let it go. I did a blog post a few months ago about learning when it’s time to let things go. From that moment, when I come across something that I know I have not used, in the trash it goes without hesitation or regrets.
While watching some YouTube videos recently, I came across several cleaning and organizational videos on the channel titled “How Jen Does It.” Her name is Jen as you can see from the title. She provides tons of very helpful cleaning/organization tips and suggestions for almost every area of your home. She also has shares recipes, clothing and grocery hauls.
She lists her cleaning routines in full detail and explains why it is helpful to do so many things in a particular way in an effort to start a routine and stick with it. If you have never watched her videos, you should check them out because she is really awesome. After watching approximately twenty videos, I made a list of things that I wanted to do around the house based on her ideas / suggestions. [Read more…] about Ahhh….
