Hi! I’m Amber Downs. I am a Youth Services Librarian and work with children 0-18 years in a public library. I am also an avid planner and blogger. I live with my husband in our little pink house in Central Florida. I started AmberDowns.net as a way to share my favorite things; planners and supplies, scrapbooking, DIY, food, beauty products, and whatever else I enjoy. It is truly my hope that you will find something here that is helpful or inspirational to you
Blog Name: Amber Downs
1. When did you start blogging and what made you want to start?
I started blogging back in August of 2015. When I started my blog I was looking for a new hobby and possibly a way to earn a little extra cash on the side.
2. When did you first start using a paper planner?
I started using a paper planner heavily when I started a new professional job back in 2013. Before that I had used school planners and phone based calendars but never totally stuck with or loved a system.
3. What planner are you using for the new year?
At home, I have a classic size Happy Planner which I actually keep two planners in. I have the regular vertical layout for my home duties and the horizontal planner is in the same planner for my blog planner.
At work, I am currently using a Webster’s Pages Color Crush A5 planner. This is my first time in a long time using a weekly layout for work so it will be interesting. I generally use a daily layout for work. (Totally still looking for work planner peace) I am still looking for the perfect, affordable A5 daily dated planer inserts.
4. How many planners do you own?
Oh boy, in total I have seven planners. As a blogger, I often purchase a few planners here and there to review for the blog. Sometimes I give this away and other times I just hold on to them for fun. Right now on the shelf there are seven.
5. If more than one, what do you use each one for?
Right now I am only using the two mentioned.
6. What is your favorite pen to write with?
I am currently loving my Staedtler pens. I have this set for some time and they last very well. They are not the cheapest, but it is worth it. I love the skinny size and the bold colors.
7. Do you have a planning routine? If so, please share.
My planning routine usually starts on Sunday. I sit down with my husband and we look over the week and month ahead. We share with each other events, work schedules, and other plans and talk about meals for the week. Once we’ve worked these items out, I add my stickers and embellishments to my planner. I then jot down schedules, meals, and plans we discussed. From there I add the tasks I know I need to complete and anything else I need in my planner. From then on I just add tasks and events as needed.
8. Favorite store to shop for planner goodies?
I am a Michaels girl for sure. I love being able to touch and flip through stickers before purchasing them and I love coupons!
9. Any recommendations / advice for someone who is just starting out in the planner community?
You don’t need to buy everything you see. Start with a few items and take it from there.
