1. When did you start blogging and what made you want to start?
I have been blogging since my senior year of college (since 2008). I was a Communication Major with a minor in Textiles and Clothing at The Ohio State University, and as part of my completing my degree I was required to complete an internship. I first worked at a Public Relations firm (which was what I really wanted…and hated it), so I was already working with SKORCH Magazine (Online Plus Fashion Magazine) so I completed my internship through them and LOVED it! I worked with SKORCH after my internship was over, however, I never became permanent. After my work with SKORCH concluded I decided to create a blog to do “my own thing.” I started as a fashion blogger, then life happened and I became a Lifestyle and Parenting Blogger!
2. When did you first start using a paper planner?
I was first introduced to planning by my mom at a young age. She took my sister and I to Franklin Covey and we picked out planners and had the refills. I have always used stickers in my planner after I saw my 4th grade teachers lesson plan book. It was VERY colorful and filled with stickers…I was in LOVE!!
3. What planner are you using for the new year?
I am using a Happy Planner Mini and Recollections Large Spiral for planning and some home stuff.
4. How many planners do you own?
Right now I am only using 2 although I’m thinking of getting a third one (Monthly) for work.
5. If more than one, what do you use each one for?
I use my HP Mini for Everything (family, life, work) and my Recollections is primarily blogging, but I write some of my family’s events in there. The recollections planner stays at home, so in case my husband needs to look at our calendar and I’m not around he can refer to that one, even though I also put everything in our Google Calendars.
6. What is your favorite pen to write with?
I’m pretty plain with Ink Pens…I LOVE Staedtler pens! I love the way they write and the various colors.
7. Do you have a planning routine? If so, please share.
No, I have no routine! I usually find myself putting stickers in my planner and writing down things at the most inopportune times! Like everyone is getting ready to walk out the door and I’m standing at the table putting stickers in my planner. Usually I get the “are you serious” look from my husband. LOL! Sometimes if I have something to write in there I put stickers in for a couple of weeks at a time. I’m not a daily planner, I look at it daily but I like to decorate a couple times in one month and that’s it.
8. Favorite store to shop for planner goodies?
I’m all about HAPPY PLANNERS this year. Last year I tried HP and I just wasn’t a fan, but this year the sticker books are my favorite. I don’t buy many stickers off Etsy but if I had to choose a couple of shops that I still look at often are:
9. Any recommendations / advice for someone who is just starting out in the planner community?
DON’T spend a bunch of money following the crowd! My cousin Dawn and I jumped in on the planning trends last year and spent a BUNCH of money. This year we have calmed down and only have 2 piece. Find what you like and stick to it no matter how much someone says you need to get “this or that”…also be sure if you are going to spend over $50 that you REALLY like what you are getting!
