Disclosure: HASK Charcoal Purifying Shampoo, Conditioner and Deep Conditioner have been provided in consideration for a review. This review is based on my honest opinion / experience after using the products. This is not a sponsored post.
Hello everyone and Happy Monday! Today I am going to review the HASK Charcoal Charcoal Purifying Shampoo, Conditioner and Deep Conditioner. Up until several months ago, the only beauty product that I had ever heard of charcoal listed as an ingredient would be face masks. I personally have never tried any beauty products containing charcoal which is why I was interested trying the Charcoal Purifying products.
Back in February, my beautiful and sweet blogging friend Melissa (owner of primpandprimebeauty.com) did a review on the HASK Coconut Oil line. She filmed both a You Tube video and posted a review on her blog and based upon her reviews, I have been using it ever since. You can purchase this line of hair care products at Target, Ulta and many other retail stores.
During a recent conversation with Melissa, she informed me that she also received the HASK Charcoal line to test and review. We instantly decided to do a joint collaboration review because this will give our readers a chance to hear the opinions from two people who each have a different hair type and texture. So make sure to head on over to her blog and check it out her review.
I have naturally curly hair that used to be much thicker before I had my son. My hair texture has changed and my curls have loosened up. My hair is very curly on the day that I wash it however on the second day, the curls are much more relaxed. My scalp does not get oily very quickly therefore I only wash my hair twice a week. The one thing that I can tell you about my hair is that it has never felt dry and/or course. I get regular trims every three to four months. I use less heat on my hair than I used to in previous years. If I want to straighten my hair, I will let it air dry first before applying any heat to it whether it be a blow dryer or a flatiron.
Here is some information from the HASK Beauty website:
The HASK Collection of Purifying Charcoal hair products is meant to give your hair a detox from product residue that can typically weigh your hair down. The products are created to give you a deep clean feeling. Charcoal is an ingredient made from coconut shells in the Philippines. For an extra boost of radiance, HASK purifying charcoal combined with vitamin C-rich lemon and grapefruit oils, invigorates and clarifies hair without stripping away any moisture. These products are free of: Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates, Gluten, Drying Alcohol and Artificial Colors
TESTING THE PRODUCT
When I used the shampoo and conditioner, the first thing that I noticed was that the products had a very nice citrus scent. I poured a little more than a quarter size amount of the shampoo into the palm of my hand. I applied some starting at my roots and continued to massage it into my scalp and down into the ends of my hair. As I rinsed the shampoo out of my hair, I noticed traces of hair dye from when I colored my hair two weeks prior.
Shortly afterwards, I applied the conditioner to my ends only as I always do when I wash my hair. I finger combed the conditioner into the ends of my hair and rinsed it out. I immediately noticed that my hair felt very dry and course. I then applied the deep conditioner to my hair concentrating on my ends and left it in my hair for the recommended time of ten minutes. After I rinsed it out and detangled my hair, I noticed that my still felt dry and somewhat course. Normally a deep conditioner is supposed to leave your hair feeling soft. Unfortunately, this is was not the case for me.
OVERALL OPINION
The colors of the packaging are very vibrant. I was impressed when I received two full size bottles of the shampoo and condition. While the scent is pleasant and my hair did feel clean, I did not care for the way my hair felt afterwards. I have tried many different brands of shampoo and conditioner in the past and my hair has never felt this way. I let my hair air dry all day yesterday and I ran the flat iron through my hair this morning. My hair still feels very dry so with that said, after this experience I can honestly say that I personally would not use the Charcoal Purifying line again.
Well that wraps up my review of these products. I will continue to use their Coconut line as my hair did feel very soft and moisturized however keep in mind that everyone’s hair type and texture is different therefore you may experience different and better results than I did using the Charcoal Purifying line.
As always, I love to hear from you. Have you tried any HASK hair care products? If so, which line is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.
