Happy Wednesday! Today’s post is going to be a review of the Brit and Co. spiral bound hourly planner. It is a fairly new line of planners and I believe they are sold exclusively at Target. If you have never heard of Brit and Co., it is a media company that was created to inspire, educate and entertain women to bring out their creative spirit. You can read more about their brand and what they offer by visiting their website.
Now before I get into the actual review, let me just give you a quick history of my planning style. If you have been following me for a while, you already know that I have never used let alone ever tried an hourly layout. No matter what type of position I had at work, I never did things on an hourly basis therefore I never felt the need to use one. Well friends, the time has come for me to try one.
Make sure to stay tuned to the end of this post as I am hosting a giveaway and you will have a chance to win one of your own!
At work, I manage the calendar for my boss who also happens to be the director of the department. The last few months have been extremely busy for her and in our office overall. Truth be told, it has become quite the task to try and keep up with all of the meetings that need to be scheduled in the upcoming weeks and months. While I do have two computer monitors on my desk, I can only view her calendar on one which makes it somewhat difficult when I need to see several weeks in advance with each day in full view. I started printing out her calendar for two weeks at a time and I lay them out on my desk as this helps tremendously when planning multiple meetings for which several dates have been offered for each. I was using small post it notes to block off the tentative dates and times until….(warning planner talk ahead)
This is where the funny part comes in…… Remember the infamous Target page flags that everyone nearly lost their minds looking for? Yeah, you know the ones that once you finally got your hands on a pack you realized that they barely stick at all! Yeap, those! Well one day I was trying to think of how I can plan tentative meetings without actually writing on the printed calendar. That’s when it hit me! When I got home, I went straight to my bin of planner stuff and pulled out the page flags! Bingo! Well that worked great for about two weeks but then I ran out of page flags so I purchased Post-It Page markers which are essentially the same thing just not as wide or long but they fit better in the hourly planner.
First Impressions & Review
I love the blue confetti cover and I was so excited that the planner is undated which meant that I could start using it now. Each month is separated by a bright colored inspiring divider. The paper quality is not too thin and the ink from the Uni-ball Signo bold tip pen did not bleed through. The monthly layout provides just enough writing space for each date and includes a notes column on the right hand side. I do wish that the hourly layout offered just a little more writing room but I will make it work. I will use the monthly layout to mark major dates: monthly meetings, major reminders, department events, etc.
Since I purchased the planner, I have been able to manage her calendar more efficiently. When I schedule meetings, I offer the attendees several dates and times to choose from based upon my boss’ availability. In the planner, I use the page marker to block the time slots, write the name of the meeting/project and I place them in every spot to hold the times until a date has been selected. Once the calendar invite is sent to everyone and the event is on her calendar, I write the meeting info in the appropriate date and time in the hourly planner. I then remove all of the page flags to free up the other times for other potential meetings. No white out, no crossing out, no erasing = NO mess! Perfect!! It may seem like a lot of work but truthfully it has really helped a lot. I can see everything at a glance and browse availability quickly and easily.
Here’s a sneak peak at some of the dividers between each month
Are you ready for the GIVEAWAY?
I cannot believe that it has been one year since I decided to rebrand (you can read more about that here). It has been the best decision that I have made in my blogging journey thus far. To celebrate this milestone, I decided to do a mini giveaway as I haven’t done so since then. If you would like to win a Brit + Co. planner of your own, make sure to check my Instagram for all of the details. The planner that I am giving away is pictured below. The inside is the exact same as the one shared above in my post.
