Hello everyone and Happy Friday! If you follow me on Periscope, then you would have heard me make a little announcement. If not, then prepare yourself to hear this craziness. After living the planner fanatic life for the past year, I have decided to take a step back and start focusing on other things. Don’t get me wrong, I will be still be a planner girl at heart!
If you follow me on Instagram, by now you will have noticed that I have not been posting as many planner related photos and/or any mini planner shopping hauls. The truth is that I just have way too much stuff and planners that I am not even using. It was fun at the moments when I purchased them but now they’re sitting in a small bin under my desk.
I am certain that many women in the planner community can attest to the fact that impulse buying is a huge downfall of this planner fun/addiction because the moment that you see something cute, you need to have it. Well that’s the thing, think about this for a moment. Do you really need it or is it simply because you want it? Someone once asked me to help them choose which planner they should get.
My answer: First write down what you are going to use the planner for. I have a blog post (lengthy at that) which explains how I started planning up until I purchased my Kate Spade planner last November. I admitted that my first planner was a complete impulse buy simply because it was the first thing I saw as I wanted to hurry up and get into it. If you’d like to read more from that post, you can click here.
A lot has changed since my last planner post. A friend of mine recently told me that she was struggling with finding a logical way to plan, logical as in less cutesy and more functional. I was so happy to hear that because I was thinking the exact same thing. After watching tons of videos on You Tube (as if that wasn’t the reason I started this planning addiction to start with) and looking at other people’s pictures on Instagram, I realized that as strange as this may sound, there are many women who use only one planner for everything. I know crazy right? Who does that?
Ahhh planner peace… that is a theory / phrase to say that you have the perfect planner, one that works and looks exactly the way that you need it to. I thought that I had found planner peace with my Kate Spade Wellesley planner. Now don’t get me wrong I do love that planner however because it’s a zip around I couldn’t fit that much in it. I realized that if I wanted my planner to be more functional, I needed a change.
A little over a month ago, I purchased a simple yet classy looking black patent Filofax planner on Amazon. I went for the personal sized again because it is the perfect size for me. At this point I want simplicity and functionality. I also did not want to continue lugging around my Happy Planner that I used as a blog planner. With that said, I stopped using the Happy Planner and created a section in my Filofax strictly for my blog.
To sum it all up, I had my fun, believe me I did and I can’t even count the trips taken to Michael’s, Hobby Lobby and the infamous Target Dollar Spot. A lot of the time, it was like an adrenaline rush just looking for the newest page flags or the cutest scrapbook paper stacks to make dividers. Well the adrenaline rush has since vanished and sadly now, I am stuck with a ton of planner stuff and I cringe when I think of all the money that I have spent.
I am proud to say that I have found Planner Peace as I have never been more organized in my life. Another reason that I have stopped purchasing planner stuff is because I’ve realized that I would much rather spend that money on myself either buying clothes or trying new makeup, etc. I have started investing more money into taking care of myself and ultimately that is what I want and need to do moving forward.
Starting now, I will be using any stickers that I still have left and will post pictures of my planner periodically on Instagram. Over the past year, I’ve met so many awesome and sweet women in the planning community. I can only hope that you all will want to continue to interact with me and read my blog even though it will be focusing on other things that are going on in my life and/or projects that I wish to share with you all.
