Hi everyone! Well the day has come that I finally tried something that I found on Pinterest over six months ago. I decided to find the pin demonstrating how to clean your oven using common household products. I posted a picture on Instagram after I applied the mixture sprayed all over the sides and bottom of the oven. It was hilarious as I received several comments requesting that I share the results so I thought it would be a great idea to do a quick blog post about it.
I am positive that you have seen this pin in particular on Pinterest. I realized that I saved it approximately ten times and yet I hadn’t tried it until now.
The products/ingredients that you will need are as follows:
1/8 cup Liquid Dish soap
3 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 cup Vinegar
2 cups hot water
- Combine only the liquid dish soap, vinegar and water together into an empty spray bottle. Shake it a couple of times to ensure that the ingredients are mixed together.
- Spray the mixture generously directly onto the interior walls and the bottom. Make sure to cover all of the surfaces completely
- Sprinkle generous amounts of baking soda on top and spray the liquid mixture again over the baking soda
- Leave overnight
- The next morning, wipe out the mixture and wash the surface with hot soapy water.
Disclaimer: I tried this on Sunday at 11AM and I did not want to leave it overnight. I waited until 7pm which was eight hours after applying the mixture. I want to apologize in advance for not taking a before photo. It wasn’t until after I applied the mixture inside of the oven that it occurred to me that I should have taken a photo. If it helps, my oven was not a pretty sight (guilty admission).
Results: My results were very similar to the person who wrote the article/blog post on Pinterest. I would estimate that approximately 60% of the hard baked on stuff wiped off on the first try with a wet clean sponge. I rinsed the sponge off and wiped it down again and while I was able to slightly remove some more, I still had to use the abrasive side of my sponge to scrub some off for about 20 minutes.
It did not remove the grease marks on the side walls of the oven at all. I may need to purchase a steel wool sponge to clean the sides and the remaining scuffs/stains on the bottom of the oven. The grease marks in the center towards the back were already there when I moved into my house therefore this is as clean as I could get it.
Well there you have it! I hope that you found this post helpful. If you have tried and/or will try this for yourself, please make sure to leave me a comment and let me know how it worked for you.
