Let me start off by saying that I am ashamed to admit that I have never had what many would refer to as a “skincare routine”. My routine was that I simply just did not take the time to remove my makeup every night and wash my face. Big mistake, HUGE especially for someone who used to spend a lot of time in the sun. All I have to say to justify that is just pure laziness. Thankfully I can say that I never had a problem with my skin when I was younger other than an occasional breakout on my chin around my lovely monthly visit.
The hardest part is coming to terms with the fact that I am getting older. Over the course of the last few years, I’ve noticed more and more dark brown spots on my face. Although I don’t spend as much time in the sun as I used to, at least I smartened up and started using moisturizer by the brand Eucerin that contains SPF 30. I am proud to say that I finally decided that it was best to start a proper skin care routine.
After watching several reviews on You Tube, I decided to purchase the Clarisonic Mia 1. It was $99 on Sephora’s website in the color referred to as Mai Tai. I received mine relatively quickly and I immediately charged it for the full 24 hours that the manual recommended.
I went to Target and purchased the Aveeno Positively Radiant brightening cleanser. It contains moisture rich soy extract and the label states that it is supposed to help even your skin tone, texture and reduce the appearance of dark brown spots. I also purchased the Neutrogena brand of makeup remover cleansing towelettes. I use those at night to remove my make up prior to using the Clarisonic.
MY ROUTINE: I use it twice a day right after I take a shower in the morning and before I go to sleep at night. Before bed, I use a Neutrogena makeup wipe to remove my make up. I then wet my face, wet the brush of the Clarisonic, pump some of the Aveeno cleanser onto the Clarisonic brush and in circular motions, I start on one side of my face. It has a one minute timer and it will turn off afterwards therefore I usually do about 20 seconds on each side of my face, then about 15 seconds on my forehead and I move down my down to my chin.
I rinse my face thoroughly to be sure that I have removed the cleanser completely and I use a small washcloth to pat my face dry. I then rinse off the brush head, put the cap back on and set it down on the counter top with the brush facing down so that any excess water can drip out of the holes in the cap. I then apply my Eucerin face moisturizer.
MY REVIEW: After using the Clarisonic Mia for two weeks, I can’t honestly say that I see a huge difference in my skin’s appearance in regards to any lightening of my brown spots. My skin did take a few days to get used to the actual deep cleaning and it was red for a couple of days however it went away as I continued to use it. I can say that I am loving just how fresh and clean my skin actually feels after using the Clarisonic as it is much softer now than ever before.
Now keep in mind that just like any product, you are going to hear good and bad reviews from people because everyone’s skin type / texture is different. With that said, what may work well for some people doesn’t always mean it will do the same for others. I personally would recommend purchasing the Clarisonic Mia 1. There are several other newer models available however I chose to go with the less expensive one.
The brush that it came with works well with my skin and you have the option of purchasing different brush heads depending on your skin type. I believe that the brush heads are priced in the range of $25-$30 depending on where you purchase them.
Well I hope that my review of the Clarisonic Mia 1 provided you with enough details to hopefully help you decide if you should invest in purchasing one of your own. I just checked their website and they are still offering free shipping when you purchase one. I am more than satisfied with my purchase as I feel that it is truly serving it’s purpose.
Make sure to stay tuned as I will post an update in two weeks if I continue to see a difference in my overall skin texture and appearance.
