Before I get into just how excited I am about this blog post, let’s rewind back to March of this year for just a moment. We all know that this is also referred to as the time for spring cleaning. With that said, that is when I finally decided to go through my huge bin which stored all of my craft supplies that I collected over the course of several years. The bonus of holding onto this stuff for so long is that it has saved me from having to make several trips to the craft stores every time my son had a project for school. I was so relieved to know that there was a method to my madness!
Early one Saturday morning I went down to the basement, put my earphones on, pressed play on my Ipod and got started. The truth is that I didn’t realize just how much stuff I had until I emptied the bin completely and sorted through everything. I sorted through all of the stickers and embellishments first. I put all of the tools that I had aside until I decided what I wanted to do with them. I made three sections to divide things to either keep, giveaway or discard. After I was done, I was able to give two cousins a huge goodie bag each for their daughters.
After the hard part was done, the next part was to figure out just how I was going to store everything that I was going to keep. That’s when the fun part came in because that resulted in taking a trip to… Target! I browsed through their storage and organization section and after checking out all of the possible storage containers, I purchased an adorable storage unit that contained three fabric drawers on wheels.
The unit was very sturdy, the drawers were big and everything would fit perfectly with space for more. The best part was that it was on sale for only $19 (originally $25) so I loaded it into my cart and that was that. I went home, organized everything I had and I placed the storage cart in a corner of my dining room. It served as my mobile office for several months.
Fast forward to a couple of months ago when I was envisioning just how cute a desk would look all set up and how I longed to have my own space where I can blog, work on my planner, etc. The truth is that I just didn’t have the space for it. But then one day, someone posted a picture on Instagram of a desk that they purchased at Target on clearance for only $25! At that price, not only will I find space for it, I ran to Target as soon as possible and to my surprise they still had them in stock.
As I looked around for a chair, my son suggested that I purchase an adorable turquoise colored ottoman to sit on which could also serve as storage space. It was also on clearance for $12. I purchased both the desk and the ottoman for under $40. As you can see in my picture, both the ottoman and the storage cart fit perfectly underneath so it is safe to say that this was yet another successful trip to Target!
As you can see, I still need a few things to put on it to decorate it so Homegoods here I come! Soon my days of drooling over everyone’s beautiful desk pictures on Instagram will be over. I’ll post more pictures soon when I add a few more things to it.
