Just as I have my holy grail makeup products, I have several favorite go to hair products that I have been using for quite some time. As many of you might know, I have naturally curly hair and I used to constantly blow dry and flat iron it way too much. Over the course of the last few years, I have changed my hair routine which is to use less and less heat which in turn prevents me from getting split ends sooner and less hair that has to be trimmed at the salon.
I prefer keeping my hair length just below the shoulders because it feels much healthier after a trim and it doesn’t take long to style anymore. I do wear it naturally curly more often. If I want to straighten it or put some waves in it, I simply apply some argan oil just to the ends and I let it air dry before I either use the blow dryer or curling wand. I normally do not use hairspray unless I am styling my hair for a special occasion. My hair does not get oily quickly therefore I can go about four days between washes.
When I was younger, I was not a fan of my curly hair as I had much thicker hair back then and it was too much to manage. Here’s a funny story for you and I’m sure that most of you will get a good laugh while reading it. When I was about five or six years old, I became aggravated when I was trying to put my hair in a ponytail with one of those old school hair accessories with the two balls on each ends.
By now, most of you are probably cracking up because I am certain that most of you ladies know exactly which ponytail holders that I am referring to. I tried to put one end over the other, and in turn it snapped and it smacked me on my head so I went running to find the scissors. My aunt is a hairdresser so she had to cut my hair to even it out and that memory is still very fresh in my mind.
After I had my son, I noticed that my hair texture changed and my curls loosened up a lot. Now it is very curly right after washing it however the curls will loosen up into waves by the second day. The quicker and easier it is to take care of and style it the better.
Here is a list of my favorite go to hair products and tools:
Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy Shampoo & Conditioner – I’ve been using this brand for a couple of years now and it really is great for my hair. It leaves my hair super soft and it smells so good. You can usually purchase it at Target and Walmart for approximately $8 each however I usually stock up when I find it on sale for $5 each.
Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum – After I wash my hair, I apply this my hair from about ear length to the ends of my hair.
TRESemme Heat Tamer Spray – I only use this if I am going to be applying heat to my hair after it air dries. I apply it the same way as I do the serum.
TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo – I love this stuff and it’s perfect for the days when you try to postpone washing.
TRESemme Extra Firm Control Hairspray – I only buy the trial size because as I stated above, I don’t use it often but it’s strong enough hold for me.
RUSK Brilliance Grapefruit and Honey leave in conditioner – If I am going to leave my hair curly, I will apply just a little bit and I only use it about once a week.
Essence of BEAUTY Tourmaline silver round bristle brush – This brush helps blow dry my hair very quickly and the tourmaline helps keep it from getting frizzy.
RUSK CTC Blow dryer – This is by far the best blow dryer that I have ever owned. It dries much hair 20x faster which cuts my drying time down from over an hour to about 45 minutes.
BED HEAD Curling Wand 1″ – For the price, this curling wand works perfectly. I let it heat up for about thirty minutes. If I want a tighter curl, I will start wrapping my hair around it close to my roots. If I only want a slight wave, I will start at about ear’s length and wrap it around the barrel leaving a good amount of space between each piece of hair. I purchased it at Ulta on Black Friday for $15 however the original price of $25 is still a good deal.
Well that was my list of must have and most favorite hair products. I do try different shampoo and conditioners a couple of times throughout the year however I often find myself repurchasing the same ones because they simply work great for me. What is your current hair routine? Leave me a comment below and let me know what your must have / go to hair products are. Based upon your recommendations, I may just want to try something new.
Sorry for the lack of blog posts as it has been a crazy week for me. I am so looking forward to the weekend as my parents are coming to visit us. I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend!
