As I mentioned in a previous post, I participated in my first Color Run last Saturday. If you follow me on Instagram, then you probably saw a small collage of pictures. It was so much fun. There were four stations that you run/walk through where volunteers were throwing the colored powder (It is actually just dyed corn starch) all over you from different directions.
I didn’t get to actually run as much as I wanted to because there were just so many people there. At the end, you get a medal and a pack of the dyed cornstarch so that you can participate in the after run festivities. They have a tent where you can purchase souvenirs such as sweatshirts, t-shirts, baseball hats, bumper stickers, etc.
After researching some information for myself prior to Saturday which proved to be very helpful, I’d like offer the same recommendations for you:
- Plan ahead! I highly suggest that you arrive to the event no less than an hour before. Thankfully I did because about thirty minutes before the first wave was supposed to begin, there was a line at least 20 yards long of people waiting to check in. There were only two waves: a runners only and then the walkers including those with strollers, small children, etc.
- Upon check in, you will receive your white Color Run t-shirt, your bib number with four safety pins so that you can pin in onto your shirt, a rainbow colored headband, and two temporary tattoos.
- Also, there is no bag check in therefore you will need to either leave your personal belongings in the car or you will have to carry them. I would recommend purchasing a pack of baby wipes, a few towels to cover the seats in your car and a plastic baggie or another type of case to carry your phone because the stuff that they throw at you will get everywhere and anywhere.
- When you get home, rinse your clothing in the bath tub until the water runs clear before throwing everything into the washing machine. I can tell you that the color comes out pretty easily and believe it or not, the white t-shirts look like they never had a splash of color on them.
Well I hope that you enjoyed my recap of this awesome event. It was definitely interesting and something different which made it even more fun. If this event comes to a town near you, I highly recommend that you sign up especially with a group of friends. I didn’t know this when I signed up however you can check Groupon as they may offer a $5 off deal. If you sign up early, I believe it is $35 and the price goes up to $45 afterwards.
Have you ever participated in this event? If so, leave me a comment below because I’d love to hear all about it.
