TGIF everyone! Yes, I know it’s been over three months since my last blog post but what can I say other than life happens. Anyhow, I’ll share more about that in a minute but can I just say I cannot believe we are approaching the end of July! I haven’t done much this summer except just get some sun, have my morning coffee out on my deck and an afternoon iced caramel macchiato. Yes, can you believe that a coffee lover such as myself has never tried it until now? Like who I am even?
Earlier this week, I shared via Instagram Stories how I have been feeling lately in regards to blogging, planning, etc. I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to read them and reached out to me. Trust me when I say that it truly meant a lot to me and it’s because of your messages that I am sitting here today blogging. I can’t promise that it’s going to be very frequent, but I’m working my way back into it.
So much has been going on so I wanted to do a quick (well maybe not so quick) post to share what I have been up to. As I stated above, I really haven’t been doing much this summer other than the usual work, chill on my deck, catch up on some older tv shows, and try to set up my new pocket sized planner.
Before I get into the juicy details about the pocket planner, I will quickly confess that I did HORRIBLE on my No Spend last month. Disclaimer: I did however survive the entire month of May without spending a penny on anything planner or stationary related so kudos to me! By the grace of all things #adulting, July has been a much better month in regards to my no spend and I have successfully lasted this far without buying anything planner related.
Sidenote: To those who look forward to me sharing the monthly No Spend trackers that I create, I truly apologize as I just don’t have the time right now so unfortunately I will not have one ready for next month.
If you can recall back in March, I did a blog post for the Latinas and Power website and a couple of months later, I attended the symposium for the first time. I still can’t even put into words just how much I enjoyed it and can’t wait for next year. Marilyn reached out to me again shortly afterwards and asked me to do a recap on her website sharing my experience at the symposium which you can check out here.
A couple of months before the event, it was announced that Carmen Yulin Cruz (Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico) was going to be attending and assisting Marilyn in acknowledging the many organizations that formed relief efforts to help the residents of Puerto Rico. I recorded a few seconds here and there while she was speaking but you could hear more on the Latinas and Power FB page.
Check out this quick photo that I shared on my IG stories while I was there. It was so awesome to see Ana Navarro and hear her speak because she was amazing and she is exactly how we see her on CNN, The View, etc.
Work… is well work! My department held it’s very first symposium and needless to say it took a whole lot of planning and organizing but thankfully it was a success. For the last few months, the planning consumed us and when I got home the last thing I wanted to do was look at another computer hence this is another reason I haven’t blogged lately.
My son is finishing his last days of summer school and he started his community service hours which is a graduation requirement for all incoming seniors. I still can’t believe he is going to be a senior in high school and will be turning 17 in almost two months. Truth be told, on the parenting side, it’s rough. I shared in a previous post how stressful it can be raising a teenager and sadly, it just gets harder. I don’t want to elaborate anymore on it but believe me when I say that it weighs heavily on me and this is yet another reason I just haven’t been in the mood to blog.
On a brighter note, I was a guest on a podcast! That’s right, the amazing Eileen of Mommy Teaches started her own podcast and she invited me to be a guest a few weeks ago and the episode aired on July 16th. I am not gonna lie when I say that I was so nervous but she is just amazing. She made me feel like we were just having a woman to woman convo and her questions were just so on point. We talked a little bit about everything including planners, blogging and parenting so I’d love for you to check it out and let me know what you think. If you have never heard her podcast, you definitely need to check it out. What I love about Eileen is that she keeps real as 100 all day everyday!
Now it’s time for some Planner Talk!
Ok so let’s get to it. I have had the pocket sized planner since the first week of June but I haven’t shared exactly how I have set it up just yet because I am still figuring it out. When I opened the box, I couldn’t stop laughing at the size of the actual Filofax box. All I could think was oh my gosh how small can this planner actually be? I opened it up and just sat there staring at it like OMG so if you have never seen a pocket planner up close, trust me when I say that pictures really are deceiving because this planner is small.
I opened the planner just to flip through it quickly so I can get a general idea as to just how small the inserts actually are. I jokingly messaged one of my longtime planner friends to say that I may need a magnifying glass because font on the inserts was so small. That is when part two of the no spend fail happened as I went online to Peanuts Paper Co to check out her inserts because that is one of the main shops that I hear about on IG.
I glanced through her shop to check out all of the different layouts that she offered (she has since added approx. 20+ more new inserts). The prices were awesome in my opinion because once you purchased the inserts you wanted, you can save each downloaded file and print more whenever you needed to. I used the 10% off coupon code from the shop’s IG page and for less than $15, I had up to six different layouts that I can choose from and test out for each section of my planner.
A couple of weeks later, I had some spare time so I created some dividers for the planner. I decided to keep it simple as far as the number of sections so that it would be quick and easy to access everything I needed. The sections that I created are: Today, Manny, Bills, Blog/Biz and Personal.
At the moment, I am using a different set of inserts for each section based on what I need to keep track of. So far, I am really loving this planner. The size does take some getting used to at first but just the portability and simplicity of it is enough for me. I honestly don’t know why it has taken this long for me to try this size. Disclaimer: If you write big like I do, you may need to consider using a finer tip pen which is easier said than done especially if you prefer one specific type of pen over the other. I will share share more about the inserts I have been using in a future post.
