It’s that time of year again! Sometimes it feels like my son just finished and before I know it, we are shopping for back to school clothes. For the past couple of years, I have relied on the app Retail Me Not because at any moment, I can walk into a store and check to see if there are any coupons that I can use. There are a wide variety of stores that you can search for and save them to your favorites.
It will tell you if there are deals to be found in the store, online or sometimes both. Let’s face it, we know how expensive things can get and before you know it, you spent a lot more than you planned. You can prevent that by taking the time to check the sales for your favorite stores beforehand.
For the past two years, I have gone to Old Navy and Aeropostale to purchase my son’s school clothes. If you have never gone to Old Navy during their $10 jean sale, you are seriously missing out. Where else can you purchase great quality jeans for that price? We usually buy five or six and he’s good to go.
The next stop is Aeropostale because that is where he gets all of his graphic tees, polo shirts, and hooded sweatshirts. Every August, I wait until they have an awesome sale however I will not purchase anything unless I have a coupon for 30% off your whole purchase. You would not believe just how much money I have saved just by using that one coupon.
Well yesterday was the last day of an amazing sale so I told my son to check it out online. Not only did they have the 30% off your whole purchase deal going on but they had a code for free shipping on orders over $75! Major score! I told him to browse around and add whatever he wanted to the cart. With this type of sale, I was surprised that they still had a lot of things in stock. The total was $192.70 and after the coupon was applied (before taxes) my total came to $134.89!
Here is a list of what my son purchased:
- Hooded sweatshirt
- 6 Graphic tees
- 3 Polo shirts
- 3 Long sleeve graphic tees
- 1 Long sleeve button up shirt
If you have shopped at Aeropostale before, then you know that this was a great deal. Everything is scheduled to be delivered by the 18th which is great. Oh and I just received the email announcing the jean sale at Old Navy so needless to say that’s where we’ll be heading by the end of the week.
Ironically next week is tax free week however sometimes I actually save more money using a great percentage off coupon and waiting for sales rather than waiting until tax free week. Call me crazy, however in the past I never encountered many sales during that time and my personal opinion is that the whole tax free week is just a sales tactic to make you think you’re saving a lot just by not having to pay taxes on what you buy.
So what are your shopping tips and tricks for back to school shopping? Do you also wait until your favorite stores are advertising a great promotion? Do you prefer certain stores over others? I’d love to hear what your back to school shopping strategies are.
Oh and it’s not over yet because school supply shopping is next!
