As I was writing down my grocery list last Saturday, I realized that I actually did not have to buy a lot and it was really cold outside so it was the perfect day to give Instacart a try. I initially heard about Instacart on Twitter a few weeks ago so I signed up for an account and needed to use the promotional credit that I received so I figured why not.
Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored by Instacart. I want to give you my overall review of my first experience using their service.
Instacart is an online grocery service that you can order groceries from and have it delivered to your home within a couple of hours. The app is very easy to use however you can use a desktop /laptop computer if that is what you prefer.
After you sign up, I recommend that you take a few minutes to browse around the app and visit the profile settings section to be sure that you have entered your address, special delivery instructions, notification settings and selected your payment methods before you start shopping.
Important tip to share: You will notice that the prices are slightly higher than they would be in the actual store but you have to remind yourself that you’re paying for the convenience of having someone else do the shopping for you and for the delivery of your order. The delivery and gratuity fees (you can select the percentage of gratuity) will be added to your final bill so just be mindful of this when checking out.
There is a chat section within the app that looks like the snapshot below:
As you can see from the picture above, I received a message from Jennifer when she began shopping for my order.
Here are some things that I really liked about the app:
- If you have a loyalty card from the store that you are ordering from, you can enter your loyalty card number in the app under “Your account settings”.
- You can see the status of your order as items are purchased from your cart.
- You have the option to replace a particular item with another of the similar brand if what you originally selected is out of stock. If you do not want the suggested item, you can remove it from your cart and you will not be charged for it.
- There are times when prices will adjusted depending on the item. For example: I ordered bananas and red potatoes which needed to be weighed. I received an immediate price adjustment because the final cost was less than the price that was advertised by the pound.
When I initially signed up for Instacart, I stated that I would like to have my deliveries left on my back porch in the event that I was not home. I thought that it was really cool that I received this message from her when she was on the way. It was a Saturday afternoon and I was home, so I replied to let her know that it was okay for her to come to my front door.
When Jennifer arrived, my son and I went outside to greet her and to help her with the bags. She was so sweet and she actually told me that she was happy I was home because she wanted to tell me how much she loved my name LOL. She also asked if I could please take a few minutes to rate her service on the app and I told her that I absolutely would do so and I definitely did give her 5 stars because of her awesome service, everything that I ordered arrived correctly and I did not have any issues with my order.
You can schedule to have your groceries delivered in as little as one hour and you can also schedule the delivery for later during the week. The delivery fee for my area is $3.99. When you first visit the website, you have to type in your zip code to find out if Instacart is available in your area. If it is, it will list the participating grocery stores. In my area, I can choose from ShopRite, Costco, Aldi, BJ’s, and CVS.
Before I go, I wanted to share another tip with you all. I know this may seem obvious but so easy to forget when we’re trying to do a million things at once: On the day that you are ordering your groceries online, be mindful of the weather if you plan to have the order delivered while you are away from home. The last thing you want is for your food to go bad if it is sitting in the sun, get wet if it rains or simply sit outside for too long.
Well I hope that you have enjoyed my Instacart review. If you would like to sign up and give it a try, you can click here and you will receive $10 off your first order! If you do give a try, I’d love to hear your thoughts so please be sure to come back and leave me a comment on this post.
