Hello, Hello! So today I am going to try something new on my blog. A few months ago, I did a Fall Edition of Get to Know Me where I shared my favorite things about the fall season. Today, you will learn a little more about me in this segment of Get to Know Me: The Beauty Edition
I don’t know about you, but I was snowed in over the weekend. I would estimate that we got about one foot where I live by the time it was all over. I personally do not mind if it snows as long as I can stay home. I took total advantage of being lazy at home by catching up on other bloggers’ new posts and I came across a couple of new bloggers too. I noticed that one blogger, Yesenia also known as Yesi, posted a questionnaire where she shared her responses to 40 beauty and hair related questions.
I am not certain as to whether she created the questions herself or if she participated in some sort of tag. Either way, I thought this would be a great way for my readers to get to know me a little more in regards to what type make up I prefer, make up trends that I do or do not follow, what shampoo I am currently using and more.
There are a lot of questions so I am going to jump right into it!
- What skin type do you have?
I have normal to dry skin in the sense that certain areas on my face tend to be drier than others so I need to apply a little more moisturizer as needed.
- What type / brand of facial cleanser are you currently using?
At the moment, I am using Purity by Philosophy. I started using it about a month ago and I use it every morning with my Clarisonic. So far, I am really liking it. It leaves my skin feeling really clean and soft.
- How many times a day to you wash your face?
I wash my face in the morning and moisturize right after. At night, I remove my make up with the Garnier Micellar Cleansing water. It does an amazing job at removing all of my makeup and I apply a little moisturizer right before bed. If you’d like to read my review on the GARNIER Micellar Cleansing water, you can check it out here.
- Do you exfoliate?
It has been a while as I have been looking for new exfoliators to try. If anyone has any recommendations, please do share!
- What moisturizer do you use?
I was using Neutrogena however I am now using a small size container of Pond’s facial moisturizing cream. It has only been a few days so I can’t really give a thorough review just yet. So far, I haven’t had any negative skin reactions.
- Do you use an eye cream?
I am totally guilty of not using an eye cream. I know that I need to however I wouldn’t even know where to start in regards to choosing one to try. Does anyone have any drug store brand recommendations?
- Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
Thankfully I have never had a problem with acne nor have I had any extreme breakouts due to trying new products.
- What brand of foundation do you use?
For the past two years, I have been using Bare Minerals Foundation. It gives me just the right amount of coverage and because I only use a very small amount, it lasts a very long time.
- What brand of concealer do you use?
For about four years, I used MAC’s studio finish concealer and that was my holy grail concealer. Up until last year, I wanted to find a drug store dupe for it as I no longer wanted to spend $20 or more on concealer. I went to Target one day and after checking out all of the brands, I started looking at all of the shades of the FIT Me Concealer by Maybelline. It took me quite a while because I was nervous that I was going to select the wrong shade. I took a chance and chose #25 Medium. When I used it the very next day, I was so happy when I realized that I selected the right shade on the first try! Ever since then, I have been using it and I love it. I have very dark circles and it covers them perfectly with very little product. I use a small stipling brush to apply it.
- Do you know your undertone color?
Honestly, I don’t know. I know that’s terrible. I can say that it does have somewhat of a purple tone to it.
- What do you think of false eyelashes?
They can look very pretty if they are applied correctly and aren’t over dramatic. Personally, I have never tried them. I like my eyelashes the way that they are. Side note: I also don’t have the patience that it requires to apply them so that’s another reason that I’ve never tried them.
- Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?
Yes, however because I don’t wear makeup on the weekends unless I am going out and I don’t like to waste product so I usually only buy one every six months.
- What brand of mascara do you use?
Cover Girl is my go to and has been for as long as I can remember. I have used just about everyone that they have come out with. I have tried L’Oreal Voluminous and Rimmel London. They were good but I always find myself going back to Cover Girl.
- Eye liner pencil or Liquid Eye liner?
I’ve tried both but I prefer an eye liner pencil.
- What tools do you use in make up application?
On a daily basis, I only use two make up brushes: a fluffy face brush to apply my Bare Minerals and a stippling brush to apply my concealer. When I use eye shadow, I use both a flat and a crease brush.
- Do you use make up base/primer?
The only primer I use would be NYX Eye shadow primer as my eyelids are very dark so just applying a very small amount helps to lighten them up.
- What is your favorite eye shadow (color or shade)?
Right now I am using the Natural Eye Shadow Palette by NYX. It has just the perfect variety of colors for me. I have never been a fan of outrageous eye shadow colors and knowing that certain colors do not look right on me, I prefer to stay in the neutral zone.
- Do you use an eyelash curler?
I have one but I never use it.
- How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?
Not as often as I did when I was wearing contacts. I can’t explain it but that was the worst.
- What do you think of pigmented eye shadows?
Not for me. I have tried it in the past but never again.
- What is your favorite lipstick?
Maybelline COLORSensational – #240 Barely Brown
- How about lip gloss?
I do not wear lip gloss often because I hate the sticky feeling on my lips. I have yet to find one that I really like. Again, if you have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them.
- Do you ever buy any make up on eBay/Amazon?
I have never purchased makeup on either of those websites nor do I think I ever would. I need to visually see things for myself and sometimes colors can appear very different on a computer screen than they do in person.
- Do you like drug store cosmetics?
It is my preferred method of buying make up. The only higher end item that I have been using is the Bare Minerals Foundation. I don’t mind spending $28 on something that not only lasts a long time but I only have to buy it maybe twice a year.
- Did you ever consider taking make up classes?
My makeup routine is so easy and it works perfectly for me so I never felt the need to take it any further.
- Hardest make up trick?
It takes me forever to just apply liquid eyeliner in a straight line when I want to use it so never mind attempting to do a winged liner!
- Name a make up crime that you hate.
Foundation lines and not being applied evenly/correctly.
- Have you ever used / tried crazy colored make up?
Absolutely not for me.
- In your opinion, which celebrity always has great make up looks?
Jennifer Lawrence. She always looks beautiful yet very simple and never over the top.
- If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you pick?
- Could you ever leave the house without any make-up on?
Yes. On days when I am simply doing the grocery or running errands, I do not wear any make up.
- Do you think you look good without any make up on?
I didn’t think I did before however as I get older, it’s growing on me.
- In your opinion, what is the BEST make up brand?
I love NYX cosmetics. Not only are they reasonably priced, they have so many things to choose from so when I want to try something new from that brand, I am never disappointed.
- How many times do you wash your hair per week?
Once or twice a week. My hair does not get oily very quickly. After I wash my hair, if I am going to leave it curly, I apply some argan oil just once to my ends and let it air dry. After a couple of days, my curls loosen up in waves and I love it. If I am going to straighten it, it will stay that way for about four to five days.
- What Shampoo and Conditioner do you use?
Right now I am using Suave’s Professional Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner. I have been wanting to try it for a while now as I have heard very good reviews about it. Prior to that, I was using the Organix line and I loved it. It is good to try different products at times because your hair tends to get used to one product. In my experience, my hair starts to lose its shape and becomes hard to style when I want to.
- When was the last time you got a haircut?
Last November I went for a trim and decided to cut three inches off. It was a simple yet refreshing change and I loved it.
- Do you style your hair with heat every day?
If I am going to straighten it, I let it air dry as much as possible before applying any heat to it. During the summer months, I tend to leave my naturally curly the majority of the time. If not, I will let it air dry then use either a curling iron or curling wand.
- Have you ever had a bad hair coloring experience?
I cannot say that I have as I am very picky about going to a salon to have my hair colored. In fact, it has been about 12 years since I have had my hair professionally colored. I’m old school in the sense that I just dye my own hair at home with a boxed color from the drug store.
- Buns or Ponytails?
I would have to say both. It depends on what I am in the mood for, what I am wearing, etc.
- What hair trend do you like best?
My go to hairstyle for the past several years has been just below the shoulder length, gradual layers and sides wept bangs.
As you can see based upon my responses, I am very simple when it comes to my make up and hair routine. It has taken me some time to figure out what works best for me in regards to creating a simple yet presentable make up routine using products that accent my features, cover my flaws all while not using a massive amount of make up. I prefer to spend my money on other things rather than accumulating a massive collection of makeup that will never get used.
If you have any recommendations for some brands of lip glosses that aren’t so sticky, an exfoliator or an eye cream that I should try, please let me know in the comments below.
