Good afternoon everyone and Happy Tuesday! Grab yourself a cup of coffee and let’s have Café de las tres while I tell you all what I have been up to lately. Before I get started, let me explain what this phrase means. The first time that I ever heard the phrase “café de las tres” was several years ago when I heard my grandmother say it to my stepdad and shortly afterwards they sat down to have a cup of coffee together. At the time, it didn’t occur to me to ask how and when the phrase was originated.
The first thing that came to my mind was that 3pm is a good time to have a coffee break especially when you’re at work and need that extra little push to get you through the day. I just text my grandmother to finally ask her where the phrase came from. She said that from what she can recall in Puerto Rico, no matter what you are doing at the moment, you always stopped to have café de las tres (which was typically between lunch and dinner). Sounds good to me!
It has been a couple of weeks since I last talked to you and that is because I have been busy making sure that my son has everything that he needs to start school. He starts in a couple of weeks which is perfect because I have time to get him back into the school routine of waking up early, shortening his time playing his video games, and going to bed early. Over the summer, he had to read two books for school, write a short summary for each one because he has to hand them in on the first day of school.
Since I am at work during the day, the only way that he could play his video games at home is if he reads for one hour, types up a quick paragraph summary and emails it to me. If he doesn’t read, he cannot play. I allowed him to play for two hours a day and that was it for the day. When I come home from work, he has to read for another hour. It is the only way to ensure that he will read the two books required especially since the books he selected were each 400 pages. I’m sure that next year he will choose smaller books.
We went bowling the week before last and we had a great time. We grabbed lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings which happens to be his favorite place to eat. Now that he’s getting older, I have to find activities that he would want to do with me and bowling was definitely one of them. For the next couple of weeks, we’re just going to chill out at home, watch some movies and just spend time together.
We watched Stranger Things on Netflix together and it was really good. We were both bummed out that there were only eight episodes so they better come back soon with season two. If anyone has any suggestions as to what other good shows that we can watch together, please leave me a comment down below.
This past Friday, we went to Target to buy his school supplies and we grabbed a bite to eat before heading home. We finally have the coupon for Aeropostale’s major 30% off sale so we will be heading there in a couple of days and he will be all set for school clothes. If you missed last year’s back to school shopping post, you can check it out here.
I’m officially hooked on iced lattes from Dunkin Donuts. I cannot even imagine what their pumpkin swirl iced latte is going to taste like since I have been hooked on their pumpkin hot coffee for the past few years thanks to my brother. It has been extremely hot the last few days here in Connecticut but I am not going to complain too much because I know that after fall comes winter.
I went to Kohl’s and Target last week and treated myself to a few things. I needed some shirts for work that were simple yet cute. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw my list of beauty essentials that have been slowly running out so I also purchased a few things from that list too. Mission accomplished!
For all of my planner friends, you are going to get a kick out of this one. When I reached for my planner yesterday morning, I realized that I didn’t write down a single thing last week. How did I even make it through the week? I can’t even remember the last time I did that. I usually do my planning for the week first thing Monday mornings but apparently that didn’t happen. I had to document that moment on Instagram. I was relieved to know that I wasn’t the only one who has ever been so busy that they forgot to plan anything and had all of that white space just glaring back at them.
Let’s see what else….. I tried a new recipe in my Crock-pot and it was amazing. I will make it again soon and post the recipe for here on my blog. In the meantime, have you tried my Super simple Crockpot BBQ Pulled chicken recipe? If not, you have to try it because it is so good and it is perfect on Sundays as a lazy day meal.
